Frequently asked questions
Is Catch the Fly free to play?
Yes. No account, no sign-up, no payment. It runs directly in your browser on desktop or mobile.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It's built with plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, so it runs in any modern browser without an app, plugin, or download.
Is my score saved if I close the tab?
Yes. Your personal best is stored locally in your browser using
localStorage, so it's still there next time you open the page on the same
device and browser. If you clear your browser data, or switch to a different browser
or device, that saved record won't carry over.
Does the game collect personal information?
No personal data is collected by the game itself. See the Privacy Policy for the full details on local storage and on how Google AdSense ads work on this site.
Why doesn't the game work on my screen?
The game area needs a minimum amount of screen space to display properly alongside the ad slots. If your browser window or device screen is very small (for example, a phone held sideways with a small display), try enlarging the window or rotating the device.
Why does the game get harder the longer I play?
Each successful catch shortens the fly's hover time slightly, down to a minimum floor. It's intentional — it keeps a round interesting even if you started on an easy setting, and it rewards a longer streak with a real challenge rather than staying flat.
Can I play in my own language?
The interface is available in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, and Chinese, switchable from the start screen. If your language isn't on the list, I'd genuinely like to hear a request — see the About page for contact details.
Is there a way to compete with other players?
Not yet — right now the record shown is your own personal best, saved locally. A shared leaderboard is on the list of things I'm considering; see the blog for updates on that.
